September is Hunger Action Month, and Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation is partnering with the Feeding America network of foodbanks through a fundraising campaign to “Help End Hunger Here.”

From Sept. 1-30, Kroger customers can round up their purchase with 100 percent of their donations going directly to the local Feeding America foodbank affiliate.

The partnership is part of Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, Kroger’s bold social impact plan aimed at creating communities free of hunger and waste.

“Kroger is on a mission to end hunger in the places we call home,” said Felix Turner, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “There is an absurdity in the nation’s food supply. More than 40 percent of the food produced in the U.S. is uneaten annually, and yet one in eight Americans faces food insecurity every day. During the pandemic that statistic has moved to one in five Americans.”

Nationwide, Kroger has directed a record one-year total of 640 million meals to fight food insecurity and hunger in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, Kroger associates have rescued 90 million pounds of wholesome food from stores, food processing plants and distribution centers.

“We are excited about our continuing partnership with Feeding America. By working together with our associates, customers and communities, we can achieve the vision of Zero Hunger | Zero Waste,” said Turner.

The Kroger Co. has 30,000 associates who serve customers daily by delivering a seamless shopping experience throughout Kroger’s Atlanta Division, which includes Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina.

Feeding America is one of the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization – a network of 200 food banks across the country. As food insecurity rates hold steady at the highest levels ever, the Feeding America network of food banks has risen to meet the need. They feed 40 million people at risk of hunger, including 12 million children and seven million seniors.
