Día del Niño is a commemorative date celebrated annually on April 30 in honor of children. To commemorate the Mexican holiday, Northgate González Market will be celebrating with a two-week-long program where kids can receive free books, cooking classes and a chance for a teacher to win $2,000 for their school.
“This past year has not only been tough on us, but on our little ones as well. Their perseverance in the face of a pandemic is what inspired us to make this special holiday a two-week-long celebration,” said Miguel González, co-president of Northgate Market.
Through May 4, families can receive a free “Lil’ Libro” bilingual children’s book when they buy $15 of participating items at Northgate Market. Free cooking classes will also be taking place on April 24 and May 1, where kids will get the chance to learn how to prepare fun and Lil Libros-themed recipes from professional chefs and enter raffles to win exciting prizes.
Families will also be able to purchase at Northgate Markets across the southland an exclusive Día del Niño Mini Conchas Box, which includes six Mini Conchas, a Mini Concha Ice Cream Sandwich recipe and a QR code that leads to more Día del Niño recipes and activities.
Most importantly, Northgate Market knew it could not celebrate Día del Niño without celebrating the educators that help mold them into future leaders. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Day, local educators will have the opportunity to be nominated to receive a $2,000 reward for themselves and their schools. The three winners of this prize will be announced on May 4.
