Family owned, Thibodaux, Louisiana-based grocer Rouses Markets has come up with a fun way to celebrate the holidays and, specifically, the liquor selection in its stores. Rouses’ in-house band, Makin’ Groceries, recently wrote the lyrics for and recorded Shopping Rouses Whiskey Wonderland with help from Academy Award-winning composer Donny Markowitz.
He won the Academy Award for the song I’ve Had the Time of My Life from the movie Dirty Dancing.
As many Rouses employees are friends on social media, it wasn’t long before Store Director Cary Robinson was noticed playing guitar in his KISS-themed garage, Assistant Store Director Elias Heerema was seen strumming chords and Store Director Marc Ardoin banging drums. The three were brought together to form the band, and they wrote the lyrics to Shopping Rouses Whiskey Wonderland. Robinson then recruited Melanie Alessia, his cold cuts manager, to sing.
The song was recorded and produced by Markowitz, and the music video was shot by Fire on the Bayou in a Rouses Market at 5 a.m.
Rouses Markets is one of the largest independent grocers and fastest growing family-owned companies in the U.S.
