Lidl will hold grand opening events for its newest stores in Long Island, New York – East Meadow on July 29 and in Patchogue on Aug. 5. Both ribbon-cuttings will start at 7:40 a.m.
The new Lidl food markets, which are located at 1980 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow and 655 Montauk Highway in Patchogue, were remodeled this year.
All team members who worked at Best Market were offered job opportunities at Lidl with a leading wage and benefits package. The packages include a starting wage of $15 an hour and comprehensive medical benefits for all team members regardless of the number of hours they work per week.
The openings come as a new study from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School shows that prices on Lidl’s assortment were up to 45 percent lower than nearby national grocers on Long Island.
Long Island officials applauded the news.
Over the next four weeks, Lidl also will start remodeling Best Market stores in Astoria, Franklin Square and Massapequa for the next wave of store openings early next year.
Grand opening details
The weekends prior to each grand opening, Lidl will host a Farmer’s Market pop-up in the store parking lot to allow customers a chance to check out Lidl’s fresh products.
Lidl is partnering with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation to raise money for kids in need on Long Island. During each grand opening, Lidl will donate 50 cents to the organization for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets East Meadow or Patchogue as their home store.
Additionally, customers will be able to take advantage of get-them-while-you-can grand opening special offers at the grand openings.
The offers will include the following:
- A selfie social media competition outside of the store for a chance to win Lidl gift cards ranging from $5-$100 each; and
- A Lidl Scavenger Hunt and an offer for 15 percent off if you find all items in the store.
Lidl’s top priority is the health and safety of its customers and team members.
