Superior Grocers, one of Southern California’s largest independent supermarket chains currently operating 46 locations, has promoted Richard Wardwell from COO to president.
Wardwell brings more than 35 years of grocery retail experience. He began his career as a courtesy clerk and continued to advance in his profession, experiencing the many ranks of the grocery industry. He was director of operations for SaveMart, VP of operations for Raley’s, and in 2014, became VP of operations for Superior Grocers. Wardwell held the roles of SVP of operations and COO. In his new role as president, he will continue to oversee all aspects of the company.
“It is an exciting time for Superior Grocers, said Mimi Song, chairman and CEO. As we enter a new decade, there are definitely more challenges and opportunities in the grocery and retail industry, and with Rich’s leadership, our company will be well-positioned for success.”
Superior Grocers offers an assortment of grocery, dairy, deli, frozen, liquor and general merchandise. Stores also provide produce, meat and seafood departments, along with in-store full-service bakeries and hot foods.
