Gelson’s has collaborated with Los Angeles-based Groundwork Coffee to create two certified organic roasts exclusively for Gelson’s. Both are available in all of Gelson’s 27 locations in Southern California.
Packaged in 12-oz. vacuum-sealed bags, the whole bean coffee is USDA-certified organic, fair-traded and ethically sourced. They are both priced at $14.99 and include: Gelson’s Signature Blend, a medium roast with notes of toasted almonds, salted caramel and seared caramelized sugar; and Gelson’s Single Origin, a light roast from Latin America with notes of chocolate, red fruit and a hint of fennel.
Each Gelson’s Market “features the full amenities of a traditional supermarket, with the local flavor of a neighborhood market,” the company says. The first Gelson’s opened more than 65 years ago and the company continues to be known for its produce, meat, seafood and chef-prepared signature recipes.
Nearly 30 years ago, Groundwork Coffee opened its doors in Venice Beach, California, with a goal to provide the community with the best organic coffee it could find. Demand grew quickly, and Groundwork started roasting coffee around the clock at its tiny café on Rose Avenue to keep up. Now, Groundwork has “new cafés opening all along the West Coast, a growing line of cold brew coffees, and two very busy roasteries, in Los Angeles and Portland,” the company says, adding, “We’ve also been profoundly lucky to see the development of dozens of new organic coffee farms around the world and are proud to continue sharing their exceptional coffees with you.”
