The Shelby Report‘s EVP Paul Hynson was on site this morning—Thursday, June 27—for the opening of Publix’s new store in the Grove Park Shopping Center in its headquarters city of Lakeland, Florida.
The store, which is 47,144 s.f., is located at 1617 U.S. Highway 98 South in Polk County. It replaces an existing Publix in the area.
Hynson estimated that about 400 people were lined up for the opening of the store at 7 a.m. Publix executives were joined by Lakeland Mayor Bill Mutz to cut the ribbon on the new store.
GreenWise opens in Alabama
June 27 also was opening day for a third new-concept GreenWise Market. It opened in Mountain Brook, Alabama, in a former Western Market location.
“While the location of our GreenWise Market is familiar to the residents of Mountain Brook, we believe they will be pleasantly surprised by the changes we have made,” said Publix President Kevin Murphy. “We look forward to sharing the GreenWise experience and helping our customers discover unique and trendy products.”
GreenWise Market is a specialty, natural and organic store featuring a curated selection of local and organic items.
The first new-concept GreenWise Market opened in Tallahassee, Florida, in October 2018, and the second location opened last month in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Seven additional locations have been announced, and three of those are expected to open this year. The company continues to look for additional GreenWise Market locations throughout its operating area.
