Whole Foods Market is now carrying Naked Truth Premium Chicken in its meat departments at stores nationwide. Naked Truth Premium Chicken is produced by Oakwood, Georgia-based Wayne Farms LLC.
The new, fully cooked, flash-frozen chicken products are all natural, meaning they contain no artificial ingredients, no preservatives, no nitrates or nitrites; 100 percent vegetarian diet (no animal by-products); and no antibiotics. Three of the four products are gluten free.
Retail prices for the new Naked Truth Premium Chicken products from Wayne Farms range from $5.99-$6.99. Individual products include sous vide-prepared flame-grilled chicken breasts, grilled chicken breast chunks, oven roasted chicken wings and waffle flavored chicken bites.
The packages also feature the Global Animal Partnership Step 2 certification, a designation supported by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Shop With Your Heart program. The Shop With Your Heart program is a campaign designed to make it easier for consumers to find responsibly sourced products.
The GAP Step 2 label verifies animal welfare standards that set products apart from those brought-to-market using conventional care standards, GAP Step 2 standards include giving chickens more space and an enriched indoor environment that allows them to perform natural behaviors. GAP standards are independently verified by third-party audit on an annual basis.
“The ASPCA applauds Naked Truth Premium Chicken and Whole Foods Market for increasing the access and awareness of welfare-certified options,” said Nancy Roulston, director of corporate policy for the ASPCA Farm Animal Welfare Program. “We would like to see welfare-certified products offered in every protein category in every retailer nationwide so that all Americans can shop in line with their values.”
The ASPCA’s Shop With Your Heart program was launched in 2016 to help inform consumers about options in the marketplace that better reflect their personal values including those bearing animal welfare certifications, and plant-based products. The GAP program audits each farm for compliance.
