More than 7,500 Publix employees throughout the Southeast are serving their communities for the annual Publix Serves Day on April 2.
This is the sixth year for Publix Serves Day, which unites associates in community service.
“Publix encourages associates to support the communities we serve,” said Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Publix’s Atlanta Division. “Publix Serves Day gives us an opportunity to support those in need, especially organizations focused on the plight of the hungry and homeless.”
In Tennessee, more than 150 employees helped non-profit organizations in their communities with services such as feeding programs, landscaping, grounds improvements, painting and building repairs. Among the organizations benefiting from Publix volunteers on Publix Serves Day: Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro, Love Kitchen of Knoxville, Manna’s Hana Equestrian Riding Program for Children With Disabilities, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Memorial, Spring Hill Shower Up, Two Rivers Middle School and YMCA Chattanooga.
In Georgia, more than 500 associates helped local non-profit organizations with food pantries, clothes closets and home repairs to people in need. In Atlanta, volunteers helped out at the Atlanta Children’s Center. Other organizations receiving help from Publix volunteers in Georgia include Canton Angel House, Monroe Faith in Serving Humanity, Lawrenceville Family Promise Center, Fox Elementary School, Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter, Grand Lodge of Georgia, Atlanta Meals on Wheels, MUST Ministries Marietta, Salvation Army and The Place of Forsyth,
More than 200 Publix associates helped serve their communities in Alabama on April 2. Non-profits receiving volunteer assistance through Publix Serves Day include Arc of Morgan County, Boys and Girls Club of Bessmer, Cullman County Center for The Developmentally Disabled Inc., Domestic Violence Intervention Center, HEALS, Inc., Linda Nolen Learning Center, and My Sister’s Place.
Since being founded in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, Publix has grown from a single store into the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the United States.
