The City of Newark joined with Fidelco Group Chairman Marc Berson and C-Store Owner/Manager Jagat Parikh to open downtown Newark’s newest convenience store location, Krauszer’s, at the newly renovated 494 Broad Street office and business complex.

Situated in the heart of downtown Newark, the 494 Broad Street complex and its new tenant are located a few short blocks from New Jersey Transit’s Broad Street Station. In addition to serving the numerous corporate tenants at 494 Broad Street, Krauszer’s is located within easy access of 1 Washington Plaza, home to Rutgers Business School and Audible’s Newark headquarters. Krauszer’s joins local bar and eatery, Barcade, as 494 Broad Street’s street-level commercial tenants.

“The City of Newark is so pleased to welcome this Krauszer’s location to our downtown as we continue to move forward on the redevelopment of the Washington Park and Broad Street Station community. We thank the Fidelco Realty Group for being an ongoing partner in the transformation of this section of the City,” said Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.

“494 Broad Street is an integral part of the ongoing growth and vitality of the Washington Park business district, as well as the nearby Broad Street Station area. This Krauszer’s location is another part of the ongoing commitment to not just improve the area, but also to serve the needs of the people that live, work and learn in this bustling part of Newark,” said Berson.

Krauszer’s will offer its customers fresh, grab-and-go style sandwiches and salads, cold beverages and snacks. This Krauszer’s location is the fifth retail location in the city for Parikh, who believes in his mission to have multiple retail locations throughout the city to cater to its diverse community.

“As Newark continues to grow in its role as a regional hub for business in coming years, it is vital that the community has easy and convenient access to retail and a variety of food options,” said Parikh. “The strategic location of this store helps us meet the business and education community’s demand for quick access to quality food, beverages and snacks for people on the go.”

Parikh immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 and began working at a Krauszer’s for minimum wage. He was able to open his first Krauszer’s in 2007 and now owns four stores.

Krauszer’s Food Store is a privately-held company that operates a chain of convenience stores with more than 300 locations in New Jersey and Connecticut. The company was founded in 1910 by Jacob Krauszer and is the oldest chain of convenience stores in New Jersey. The company is headquartered in North Brunswick. There are four other Krauszer’s in Newark, which employ more than 10 city residents. The new Krauszer’s is the second store located within a Fidelco Realty Group-owned property; the other being on the ground level of the RockPlaza Lofts on Market Street in downtown.
