Great Place to Work Institute named Alvarado Street Bakery No. 23 on its annual Best Small & Medium Workplaces in the U.S. list, which is published in Fortune magazine. The Petaluma, Calif., company was selected from hundreds of businesses across the country in a process that consisted of employee questionnaires and a workplace audit. Great Place to Work evaluates each company that submitted an application using methodology based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.
Alvarado Street Bakery, a worker-owned and -operated cooperative bakery, was pleased to receive the award. The solar-powered company says it will use the honor to promote its co-op as an example of how alternative business structures can excel in the workplace.
Alvarado Street Bakery products are sold in grocery stores and natural food stores nationally and internationally.
