The new 93,000-square-foot store for which ShopRite will hold a grand opening May 8 at 6781 Hadley Road in South Plainfield, New Jersey, is replacing a nearby one at 1306 Centennial Ave., which will be shuttered May 7.
To mark the opening, festivities are planned throughout the day, with food trucks and in-store sampling stations. The first 200 customers will receive special grocery gift bags filled with product samples and coupons.
Community leaders will join the Saker family, which owns and operates the store in Hadley Commons, and their retail teams for the 7 a.m. ribbon cutting.
At 10:30 a.m., the family will present the Community FoodBank of New Jersey with a donation and food trucks and vendors such as Tru Fru Food, Deep Foods and Mrs. T’s Pierogies will begin offering free samples.
“Opening a new store is always a big moment for us because it represents our commitment to provide fresh, quality products and exceptional service in a state-of-the-art store,” said Rick Saker, SVP of Saker ShopRites.
“We’re excited to welcome our customers to this new location and are kicking it off with a great celebration that will include special store happenings throughout the month of May.”
The South Plainfield ShopRite store will offer a wide selection of groceries, including locally sourced foods and fresh produce, as well as national brands and its award-winning Bowl & Basket, Wholesome Pantry and Paperbird private label lines. The store also will feature an expanded line of international foods and dishes, including Southeast Asian specialties and Kosher and Halal products.
In addition, the store will have a Saker ShopRites World Class bakery with special occasion cakes and freshly made bread, large meat counter with trained butchers, seafood department with daily, fresh catch deliveries, a floral shop, a full-service deli and prepared foods.
Saker ShopRites is made up of third- and fourth-generation grocers with stores in Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset and Mercer counties.
The supermarket expects to hire an additional 200 full- and part-time employees. Interested candidates can visit the hiring center, located at 6303 Hadley Road to fill out an application or apply online at shoprite.com/careers.
